first_img 2019 Drake Relays Schedule Buy Tickets DES MOINES – With the outdoor track and field season quickly approaching, the Drake Relays presented by Hy-Vee released the event schedule for 2019.  Click HERE for the meet schedule.The successful changes in the Distance Carnival in 2018 are back on Thursday night featuring the steeplechase and competitive 5000 meter races.  The university and college running events will see a change with the 400 meter hurdles moving to Friday afternoon, while the university/college 200 meter dash is back for the second year on Friday evening.  The university division of the 4×400 meter relay will have a new twist changing to an invitational event with no preliminary heats.  Eight university teams will be selected based on specified criteria which ultimately will have them battling to win the Hy-Vee Cup.In addition to their passion for collegiate teams, fans of America’s Athletic Classic are known for their enthusiastic support of Olympic and elite athletes.   This year will feature World Showdown invitational events of women’s pole vault on Friday night along with women’s 100 meter hurdles, men’s 110 meter hurdles and men’s pole vault on Saturday afternoon. In partnership with USA Track & Field, the Tokyo Countdown invitational events spotlight athletes striving to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic team.  Events include the men’s 400 meter hurdles and high jump alongside women’s long jump on Friday night, then the women’s 400 meter hurdles, women’s high jump and men’s shot put on Saturday afternoon.  Rounding out the invitational field on Friday night is the men’s 200 meters and on Saturday, the mainstays of the men’s mile and women’s 1500 meters. “This year fans will continue to have the opportunity to see some of the world’s greatest athletes and many future Olympic stars in action,” said Franklin P. Johnson Drake Relays Director, Blake Boldon.  “The schedule is one that our fans will enjoy with highly competitive events on Friday afternoon, the new high school 400 meter dash on Friday night and fan favorite events on Saturday afternoon.” In the high school division, the 4×800 meter relay moves to Friday evening with the 400 meter dash securing a prime spot there as well.  The high school 4×100 meter relay returns to its original spot in the Saturday morning program.Be sure to get your tickets soon for the best seats.
