first_imgIn 2012 the Inishowen Traditional Singers’ Circle launched The Inishowen Song Project, a partnership with the Irish Traditional Music Archive and funded by Inishowen Development Partnership (LEADER).Now freely available online are recordings, videos, words & photographs of Inishowen traditional singers and songs – a treasure house for Inishowen families, and for singers, teachers, and researchers both locally & internationally. Over the weekend 22−25 March 2013 in Ballyliffin/Clonmany, From Granny to Google will celebrate the expansion of the project to host 550 songs from the Peninsula.Around us we will gather organisations from Scotland, Ireland, and the USA to present similar digital projects and to highlight the growth of such resources now freely available online.The virtual song will be firmly surrounded by real singers over the course of the weekend – a gathering of Irish, European and American traditional singers who will share songs in performance, open sessions & workshops!Singers/Speakers joining the project this year are: Elizabeth LaPrelle, Ken Wilson, Ian Lynch, Sile Denvir, Fergus Russell, Amy Leach, Mick Quinn, Helen Diamond, Chris Wright (Tobar an Dualchais), Nancy Groce (American Folklife Center) , Vincent Doherty, Lillis Ó Laoire (Joe Heaney Archive, Galway), Tom Byrne, Martin McGinley, Michael Gallanagh & Cloontagh & Rasheeny NS Children’s Choirs. On Wednesday, 20 March we will host a preview concert in the Grand Social, Dublin featuring Elizabeth LaPrelle, Ken Wilson & Jim MacFarland, Len Graham & Brían Ó hAirt , Lynched, and Danny & Aki.Sandinos in Derry will see Elizabeth’s last Irish gig when she appears with singers and musicians from Inishowen on Tuesday 26 March.
