first_imgThis week Donegal Daily’s fitness columnist Emmet Rushe, owner and operator of Rushe Fitness, talks of how we should channel our energy into looking after ourselves as opposed to venting to no real effect on social media following the announcement of Trump’s imminent presidency. This week saw one of the biggest upsets the U.S presidential elections has seen in recent years.Donald Trump was elected as the 45 th President of the USA. He is the only president elected, having no former Military or political experience. The internet exploded on Wednesday when it was announced.People around the world were expressing their utter disapproval at the thought of Trump as the most powerful man in the world. There were cries of shame, pity, anger, disbelief, contempt and every other synonym that you could think of when the news was announced. People were full of passion and were letting the world know through the power of social media.Great! Super! Well done!Have you finished venting now? Because it means nothing. Donald Trump is the President of the USA, not Ireland. If you can be so passionate about a subject matter that will have little to know effect on you, let’s see if we can muster up some of that passion and put it to better use.Every day, I see and hear people say that they just can’t find the time, motivation, energy to train or eat better. Every day, I see people who give up on their goals, because they just don’t have the drive to proceed or, sometimes, even to start.Yet, Donald Trump is President Elect of the USA, and these same people, can spend all day on Facebook, voicing their opinion and getting into arguments. They could stay up all night and watch the live feed as it gave the results as they happened, and yet they would claim that they are too tired when they get home to prepare a proper meal or to go and exercise.Where is the passion when it comes to ourselves? Where is the passion when it comes to our health? Where is the passion when it comes to the rising obesity epidemic? The rise in diabetes? The rise in obesity related diseases? Whenever these things come up, there is silence.Yes, there will be an increase in our health once January hits, but let’s face it, realistically it will be short lived. The issue during the week wasn’t the fact that Trump was elected, it was the fact that the apple cart had been over turned. We have become very good at acceptance. We accept that we are in an obesity epidemic. We accept that our obesity is making us a more unhealthy and unwell nation. We accept that Type 2 diabetes is now commonplace. We accept that heart disease is part of growing old.But they aren’t. We are doing it to ourselves. So, let’s tip the apple cart a little bit more and break from the norm.Yes, it will make you uncomfortable.Yes, it will be difficult at times.Yes, you will face people with different opinions to you.But what can achieve, when we finally take control of our health and wellbeing, will be worth it. We need to start using the passion we have for things out of our control and use that passion to make ourselves a healthier, fitter, better version of ourselves.God Bless America, I mean Ireland.#TrainSmartYou can find out more information visit my website or contact me on FacebookDD Fitness: How Trump can help you lose weight was last modified: November 12th, 2016 by Emmet RusheShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)last_img read more
